Meghalaya Climate
Meghalaya’s temperate climate is influenced by the South-West Monsoon and the northeast winter wind. The months of March and April mark Spring in the hill state while summer is marked by torrential monsoon rainfall which lasts from May to September, giving way to Autumn through October and November before finally settling down for the long Winter months that last from December to February. Rainfall, in the Abode of the Clouds, is most abundant over the southern slopes of the Khasi Hills which is why Cherrapunjee (locally known as Sohra) and Mawsynram receive the heaviest rainfall not just in the State but across the world. The average rainfall in the State is 12,000 mm.
